Michelle became a certified tumor registrar
in 2002. She is now the only certified tumor registrar in Douglas County. She began working for the Community Cancer Center in 2008 and
soon completed a grant writing course that began through UCC as well as a second course completed at Portland State University. Her primary duties include both reporting cases to the Oregon State Cancer Registry and writing grants for programs
at the Community Cancer Center. She has successfully won several grants from one time payments to three year grants currently totaling at $410,000 since 2009. “The funny thing is people
in this area have no idea the true quality of cancer care available to them right here in their back
yard. They cannot get any better care anywhere in the state, not with technology or personnel skills! Community Cancer Center always stays on top of quality and compassion;” said Michelle, “I truly love working at the Community Cancer Center, I have never worked with such great people! There is not a bad egg in the whole bunch!”
In her off time she enjoys refurbishing furniture and spending time with her grandson, Izzayah. Izzayah lives with her and her
husband Mitch. Every day is a
new adventure with a child under two and he gives her much joy watching him grow.
VOLUNTEERS
Samantha is the newest and youngest volunteer to join the CCC crew. She volunteers her time as a front office assistant in the Radiation Department. Some of her duties include filing, answering phones, checking in patients and other clerical duties. She will be a senior this year at Sutherlin High School where she is a member of the soccer and basketball teams.
When Samantha is not busy volunteering or participating in school activities she enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, shopping and any activities that involve the outdoors.
When asked what she likes best about her volunteer time at the Community Cancer Center she says that it is “very rewarding to see patients walk in who are battling something so difficult and still see a smile on their face.”
Samantha is a great asset to our volunteer team and we feel so lucky to have her here!
