Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide with more reported cases in first world countries like North America and with the lowest incidence in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. In fact two thirds of all prostate cancer diagnosis will occur in developed countries.
Risk factors include age (about 60% of men diagnosed are over 65 years of age) race, ethnicity, family history, diet and lifestyle. Emerging evidence also links excess adipose tissue or body fatness with disease development, which ties in with over consumption of calories as a first world problem.
Growing evidence suggests that obesity is associated with developing a more lethal type of cancer with recurrence progression and mortality.
